Environmental reporting has continued to gain momentum in the marketplace. This project positions the industry to provide necessary industry-average environmental data.
Background:
Environmental reporting has continued to gain momentum in the marketplace. While not consistent across the country, requests and requirements for construction materials to have environmental product declarations (EPDs) has increased in recent years.
Some producers have taken the necessary steps to create EPDs for their products, but there is also demand for overall industry reporting, in the form of an ‘industry-average’ EPD. Such a document take data from producers across the country and establishes an average value for environmental impacts for a product.
Program Details:
This project will fund these efforts to develop an industry-average EPD for six concrete masonry products .
In addition to the costs for the consultant, this project includes testing at CMHA’s laboratory for various CMU products. While the exact scope of products to be evaluated is still under development, it is expected that the categories will be based on the types of aggregates producers use and the amount of cement in a mix. The testing at CMHA’s lab will be used to accurately categorize units for producers that submit data.
