This guide reflects a compendium of contemporary knowledge collected over several decades that highlights practical, field-proven solutions using segmental retaining walls (SRWs). The information and recommendations presented in this guide are intended to augment the design practices and recommendations contained within CMHA’s Design Manual for Segmental Retaining Walls, but are equally applicable regardless of the design methodology selected.
The scope applies to those projects where an SRW design engineer is needed to assess site conditions, interpret the recommendations and apply engineering judgment as necessary for a successful project. The context of the discussion and recommendations presented is limited solely to reinforced SRW applications. It does not apply to DIY residential applications and projects of similar, smaller scope where an engineer is not involved.
